Fortunately I'm now back on the net, so such drastic measures won't be
neccessary :-)

You say the VESA 2.0 detection fails completely? ie. you get a "VBE 2.0
not available" error? That does sound extremely weird.

A couple of things spring to mind that it would be worth trying. Does
UniVBE support your card? I know it shouldn't be neccessary, but it
would be worth trying it to see if you get the same results. Also, could
you try running the VBETEST program that SciTech distribute along with
UniVBE (I can mail you a copy if you need it) and make sure that it
detects VBE 2.0? 

If that doesn't shed any light on the problem, I'll knock out some test
programs for you to try.
