The above two lines could be done in a single command:

	djtar -x gcc272tr.gz

Since DJTAR uncompresses .tar.gz files on the fly, you also don't need 
twice the disk space required to uncompress the package (once for the 
uncompressed tar file, and once for the files themselves).

get DJGPP), sections 18.4-18.6.  They explain this issue at length.
