Mark,

You need to get an updated mouse driver which supports these modes 
automatically. Any driver from Logitech after 1992 should do the 
trick, and I believe Microsoft drivers now offer SVGA support.

If all else fails you can obtain a TSR which is part of the 
SVGABG55.ZIP archive (I think!) from any Simtel mirror site. This 
supports VESA modes 101 and above.
