Here's something to try in bash (Win95):
  cd //c/windows
  cd //c/Progra
I have a directory called "C:\Program Files". After I typed the "a" in the
second line, bash auto-inserts an infinite many "Upper "s on the command
line, stoppable only with a Control+Break.

The command line
  cd //c/Progr*
worked fine.
