I am not too familiar with rhide, but I don't think the problem is with
rhide.  It sounds like you forgot to use the -lalleg to link in the
allegro library.

Try ...

=09gcc ex1.c -o ex1.exe -lalleg

I don't think, but don't know off hand if there are any more parameters=20
required.
