If you work under OS/2 (why does this sound strange to me?) you
may want to look for emx and consorts, the OS/2 port of gcc by
Eberhard Matthes. As far as I know, it supports PM, real pipes,
sockets, well, more or less everything that OS/2 has and DOS lacks. 

It can be found somewhere on
ftp://ftp.rus.uni-stuttgart.de
probably somewhere in the pub/systems/os2 area.
