	UNIVBE can't give you what your hardware doesn't support.  If
your video card doesn't use a linear framebuffer memory scheme, then that
is that.  BTW, sdd 5.3 should include a utility to tell you whether your
video card supports either LFB or bank switching... I have no idea
whether or not it does.
