I really wish that people would test the solutions they suggest before
posting them.  In this case, it's a matter of writing a trivial 3-liner
that will clearly show that GCC doesn't care about the style of slashes; 
it accepts both forward and backslashes alike (I tried this and it worked
for me both ways).  Let's not confuse the confused any more than they
already are, OK?
