To add something as a non native speaker:
I think the problem does not lie in spelling, the pain is
pronounciation. The Internet community here in Germany is
split into two parts about how to say the word `router', if
the `ou' sounds like in `house', or more like `brute'. Anyway,
I get my kicks in route 66, so what.
But consider, for example the little innocent word `ghoti',
a word of no particular meaning and uncertain origin. How
to pronounce it?
Obviously, the correct answer is that it sounds like `fish'.
The `gh' is an `f', as in `tough', the`o' is an `e' like in
`women', and the `ti' is `sh' as in `negotiate'.

I really like this newsgroup because there is noone barking
'off-topic' about this whole nonsense.
