Please let me apologize for getting off on the wrong foot
about djgpp and the DOS version of emacs19.31, both great achievements
of the djgpp design team.

My first and basic mistake was to have posted a "proposal" for an
article or chapter on obtaining and compiling emacs from a beginner's
viewpoint. What I should have done then -- and would like to do now --
it to announce my attention of _writing_ that article or chapter myself,
and then submitting it for careful review by more experienced users.

As Eli Zaretskii has rightly observed, the FAQ cannot be a guide to
the system requirements and installation procedures of every package
that any user might compile with djgpp. The fact that I was able to
get djgpp running without any problem, despite my total lack of C
experience, is just one illustration of the quality of the docs.

To move this thread to better ground, I would like to congratulate
Eli Zaretskii on the effort represented by emacs 19.31. Being able
to compile such an application with two DOS command lines is a more
than impressive achievement.

That achievement lends great inspiration to my article -- if only I can
write with 1% of the skill and readability shown in the djgpp and emacs
documentation.
