You have to remember that LFN support was developed while Win95 was
still in Beta, and when I first put it into beta 3, only one other 
person had Win 95 to test it with.  We knew there were enough problems
that LFN was supposed to be "off" by default (except for standalone
shipped images).  Many images, makefiles, and distributions would need
to be updated to know that LFNs were now an option.  But still 90% of
the DJGPP installed base is NOT using W95, so the LFN user base is
still very small.  Yes, eventually, I expect all DJGPP aware code will
be LFN aware, but I expect it may take a year or so to get there.  And
it doesn't happen unless someone fixes it and provides the patches...
