I am having trouble with AT&T assembly as well, I am writing in just to confirm
this is a common problem!  The worst is I can't find any resources around.
Anyway, one thing I can confirm you is 'an int is 32 bit', I did that just with
a small program.

int x=8000000;
printf("%ld ", x);
