Rather, it sounds like you have some sort of caching going on, like
smartdrv or a ramdisk.  The actual compilation time for 'hello world'
is miniscule; the delay comes because the DJGPP programs have
to load themselves every time you compile.  If you have a large cache,
then this load time is no longer a factor.  Likewise if your DJGPP progs
are on a ramdisk or something similar.
