With regard to the debate over EXE-file size, I could point out that C++
is a language intended for large-scale software projects. It would seem
rational that the compiler is geared towards this type of work.
Note that if you compile a "plain" C version of the "Hello World"
program, it is considerably smaller. About a tenth of the size, in fact.
