Maybe you are overwriting the return address (by e.g. writing beyond 
limits of an array that is passed to that function)?

If that doesn't help, post the function and the stack trace printed when 
SIGSEGV hits.

Did you try to read the on-line docs that come with Make?  Quite 
readable, I'd say, if you take some time to read it carefully.
