Why is it that people are quicker in posting to the net than in reading 
the FAQ that's supposed to be right there on their machines?

This question is answered in section 8.7 of the FAQ (available as 
v2/faq200b.zip from the same place you get DJGPP).  Short answer: use gxx 
instead of gcc; for the longer answer see the FAQ.
