Did you try using MSHELL?  It is described in the DJGPP FAQ list 
(available as v2/faq200b.zip from the same place you get DJGPP), section 
12.5.  The same section also suggests trying the FSDB debugger which can 
switch between the debugger and the debuggee screen.
