How can any problem with PATH be related to this bug, whereby GDB 
apparently doesn't get enough info from the pre-processor to be able to 
debug code whose source is on a header file #include'd by a source file?

That's *exactly* the problem of the original poster: some of his 
functions were defined on a header file.
