I changed the value to 512K and that did it. Ld did complete the linking 
in about 1 minute, although evrything else took about 40 seconds -- does 
it make sense that ld should take the most time? go32-v2 said I have 
584kb DPMI memory available, which proboly did the trick, but I got the 
same report from go32 if I changed it to 384kb, and my question is do I 
gain or loose anything by using 512kb and not 384kb if both give the same 
reading?  A number like 600kb also gave me the same reading. All in all, 
thanks very much for getting this to work, and if you need something else to 
be tried on an outdated 386 I'll be more than happy to do it for you... :)
