Try compiling with gcc 2.6.3, then linking with 2.7.1 and running under 
beta4.  If you get your original speed back, it's the compiler which now 
produces slower code.  If not, it's something in the library which runs 
much slower.

You can also run a program compiled with beta3 under CWSDPMI beta09 and 
compare the results.

Please try to give more details about when it happens.  Beta4 never 
freezed for me, even in very large compiles.  Does it happen when running 
programs distributed with beta4, or when running your programs?
