It seems to me that the himem.sys file may have gotten corrupted. I 
would suggest using the expand.exe command to copy if from you DOS 
diskette.

Both DOS and Windows come with himem.sys. You might try using the 
version you are not currently using. I believe DOS 6.2 is a newer 
version then the himem that comes with Win311.
