A Cray?  You can use DJGPP on a Cray?

It sounds like you're looking for a standard (K&R or ANSI or 
something) function call which will tell you the amount of free memory 
on a machine.  Unfortunately, such a call doesn't exist.  Any call 
that you use to get this information will be completely and utterly 
nonportable.
