DPMI (DOS Protected Mode Interface) is Microsoft's attempt to steal the 
bread and butter of companies like Watcom and Phar Lap  =)

(but: Watcom and Phar Lap aren't an issue when you got DJGPP  =)

At least, this is what I read in Al William's ``Extending DOS'': an 
excellent book IMO if you are stuck in DOS never-never land (actually, 
that's where I found out about DJGPP: a one-paragraph thing saying 
something about ``DJ Delorie's port of GNU C/C++'' and a warning to the 
readers (presumably money-hungry commercial developers) to stay away as 
they'd have problems distributing their product... probably referring to 
the GNU GPL...
