This is a well-known problem.  So well-known, in fact, that it is 
mentioned in the DJGPP FAQ list (available as faq102.zip from the same 
place you get DJGPP), section 17.1.  And in this case, it probably would 
have saved you those 3 days of debugging.

Please, *please*, PLEASE, read the FAQ!!
