Try a raw boot ( no autoexec and config ) .Normally this will let you in
plain real mode .To do so , boot from a floppy or press F5 (?) at the
"Starting MS-Dos ..." message to bypass config and autoexec .
I have a 486DX2-80 with 8Mb and I never had such problems.
