Could you give some details how you invoked GCC ?

A common mistake producing in the described behavior is:

gcc some.c -o some.exe

This may lock your system on executing some.exe .
gcc itself creates no *.exe files. You have to type:

gcc some.c -o some.out
coff2exe some.out

This will create an executable program.

Just a suggestion. Please post more details.

Tony
