Hi Shawn,

  Try using the "redir" program in the bin directory.  It has options
to redirect stdout (-o file) and stderr (-e file) from a process.
Instead of  "gcc test.c >errors" try:

  redir -o out.txt -e errors.txt gcc test.c

This should sort it out.
