The Reply-To field SHOULD be the originator, and that is where replies SHOULD
be sent. In all cases. Only a very few exceptions apply and I can't think of
one offhand.

STOP REPLYING TO THE LIST!

Most of the messages sent to this list are requests for assistance on a
specific problem - these do NOT REPEAT NOT require responses to the list.

Usenet netiquette, and the common courtesy of minimizing mailing list
traffic, calls for you to send your responses to the POSTER and let THEM be
responsible to post summaries of the replies received. The main reason
traffic on this list is so high that everyone just has to get their $.02 in
and most seem to need to make this sum public.

IMNSHO, the only messages posted to this list should be: announcements,
discoveries, questions, and summarized answers. I also do not object to
answers of the form "See the FAQ", but would prefer if only one such were to
appear (occasionally there are duplicates).

Before leaping in to reply to the whole mailing list for a posted message
(including this one), try to consider the newsgroup notice that some (most?)
machines include when you post an article or a follow-up: this article
(message) may get broadcast to thousands of sites around the world,
potentially costing many of them actual money to relay it for you and also
exposing you to feedback (not all of which may be positive) from everyone on
the net. Are you SURE you want to do this? _

(I know, that's not the exact wording, but I think I got the spirit
right.... :-)

Yes, I've said this before. Judging by the traffic on the list since my last
posting on this subject, not everyone agrees or is listening or remembers or
<whatever>. I remain unconvinced of the alternative.
