Naturally, after retrying the transfer, the problem has disappeared.
I don't know how it happened but, in the original transfer, a zero-byte,
roughly 4K into the file, was dropped.  Had I checked the received file's
length against its documented length (something to remember in the future),
none of this would have been necessary.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and suggest an alternate site.
