file.taz is the DOS equivalent to a file.tar.gz file. unix tar archive
gzipped (using the GNU gzip tools). You unpack this normally using
gzip -d file.taz
tar xf file.tar
Or under unix, if you have the auto-uncompressing tar (GNU)
tar zxf file.taz
