 When the Alpha chip (DEC, not Next, I know) was first publically released
I had the pleasure of attending the Vancouver Real Time Show. DEC was
there with thier chip on a tiny motherboard (EISA 6 Slot / 256M/4M  !  ).

 I asked the guy if they were supporting GNU; he responded that a lot
of development work was done with it and that the operating system was
off of another DEC system; just ported over (and TEN years strong).

 They knew of others working on a full port of GNU as we spoke; some 
two years or so ago. Note that I did not exactly say that part of the 
Alpha operating system _was_ written and compiled in GNU C; nor did _he_.
