For your information, Aladdin GS has long been released at 3.12 or so
(I'm a beta tester so my version is somewhat higher than that, I
forget the last public release but I believe it's 3.12).

There are only two technical differences between Aladdin GS and GNU
GS.  First is the licensing.  Aladdin GS may not be distributed *at
all* by commercial (including shareware) entities without a written
contract with Artifex (the commercial agent for Aladdin Software).
GNU GS is GPL.

Second is the version.  GNU GS lags Aladdin GS by about one year.
_For personal use_ you can FTP to ftp.cis.wisc.edu and get either
Aladdin or GNU GS there.

If you can afford to delete GS, it must be that you're only using it
personally.  Why not get the most recent version available?
