In DJGPP, there are several ways of getting around this.  All
of them are documented in the latest version of the DJGPP FAQ
list (available as faqNNN.zip from the same place as DJGPP).
Or you can point your Web browser to this URL:

and follow the links to the DJGPP FAQ list (which is searchable
by keywords there).

I don't know if that solves your problem, but it might give you
some new ideas.
