In the djgpp sources, and likely elsewhere, I find that a wordy
licence and copyright (or `copyleft') at the start of each of a
great lot of (often quite short) *.CC and *.C and *.H files add up
to a BIG amount of extra text! Once when my PC was short of space,
I went through my djgpp sources and edited out all the licences.
That freed a LOT!!!!! of my scarce hard disk space. Why can't
djgpp have a directory C:\DJGPP\LICENCES\*.* containing one copy of
each different sort of licence? Then each licenced *.CC and *.C and
*.H file need only have a single line of comment saying e.g.:-
/*** For conditions of use of this file see file
DJGPP\LICENCES\LIC-A.TXT ***/
Maybe that would be enough, and maybe it wouldn't. The FSF has
lawyers, and they see fit to put that stuff in. *You* pay for some
more lawyers, and maybe they'll change their policy.
In the meantime, *don't* tell us about it---go ask Bill Gates what
stands between him and the soup line (he thinks it's a copyright,
obviously, just ask the "look-and-feel" defendents), and Dennis Erlich
where 200MB of his data went (the Church of Scientology destroyed it
under protection of a warrant obtained under the pretext that he had
violated there copyright), and Julf of anon.penet.fi why he's feeling
raped---after all, all he had to do was give up one name ("Dennis L.
Erlich") under a similar warrant.
*Copyright* is a game played in the big leagues by big boys. They
play for keeps. Bill Gates is a billionaire. So is the Church of
Scientology. Ex-Scientologist friends of mine have scars to show for
their experience.
If you think this is rough, you should see the ~300 lines I saw fit
*not* to post.
Yours, in a really bad mood today 'cause friends of *mine* got burned
