These are the telltale signs of the gcc hanging under XMS due to
bug in access() library function.  Either install a VCPI server
(like EMM386 or QEMM386 memory manager), or, better still, get
and install the latest gcc263bn.zip and dj112m4.zip from your
nearest SimTel mirror.  That latest update fixed this bug.
