The text I referred to is in chapter 7(Compiler Performance) and says:

   If you have HIMEM installed and use NOEMS parameter to your memory
   manager, you should stubedit gcc and change the "Maximum amount of
   virtual memory to keep when spawning" from 1024K to 0.

I can't find where exactly I picked up the FAQ,but if it 'd been
tricky I'd remember.Try clarkson.

Since my previous post the server has been firing messages at me like:
1.message to nobody AT nowhere could not be delivered.
2.message to coffeebreak AT somewhere pending.
Can I do something to stop this noise?
