A: You tried to subscribe simultaneously to two email groups, by
	 sending the server command e.g.
	  subscribe Mordor Isengard /* 1 */
      instead of
	  subscribe Mordor /* 2 */
	  subscribe Isengard

Attempt (1) won't subscribe you to both `Mordor' and `Isengard' at
once, but it will subscribe group `Isengard' to group `Mordor'
unless the server's subscription program is programmed to stop that
      sort of attempt.

   Russ:
       Can this actually happen?

Yes, but the Mordor list gets a message saying "You have been
subscribed to list Isengard". This is because the UCSD listserv
(which is what we're running) interprets the first as an address and
the second as a mailing list to subscribe the first to. Basically, if
you see a message like that on djgpp, scream at me and I'll fix it.

I've been doing an untoward amount of travelling lately (nearly a week
a month). I'll be out next week, and the last week in March. Manual
requests will have to wait for my return, so please try
listserv AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu first. Relevant section of my
.calendar. Leave one day travel on both ends.
