Once again your eyes are much sharper than mine.  Yes, that
should be the reason.

Without the full GCC source, I can't test it either.  DJ, can you?
You can reproduce the bug easily just by booting a plain vanilla DOS
system: gcc will reboot it or hang to requiore a cold boot.
