What version of SmartDrive are you using?  The version included with
IBM's DOS 5.0 show such speedup, but it is nonfeatured, doesn't do
writeback, etc.  There are lots of versions of SmartDrive around.  I
dislike MicroSquish as much as the next guy, but do be specific about
versions when the program has shown as much improvement as SD has over
the last year or so.
