When building gcc itself with -O2, I found that 16Mb was tight. gcc
used 5Mb of virtual memory and 4Mb of temp space (ramdisk). I gave
the rest to smartdrive (6Mb) for holding the compiler, objects,
editor, etc.

I've got 32M now - 14M cache, 4M ramdisk, 13M virtual, 1M dos. No
problems now!
