To my message amout Tex v. ascii etc in info files, various people replied:-

  It was me who wrote that long INFO file that was supplied with djgpp before
it had the present Tex-like info help system. When I wanted to look for a
topic, I read the INFO file with my emacs and searched for key text strings.

  It doesn't. I have just tried my WP (WP 5.1 for DOS) on that Microsoft Word
file that came to me in the email.
