This is pretty much what is happening with djgpp v2.0.  Actually,
go32 is going away.  I *suppose* one way of looking at it is, it's
becoming a DPMI server, though that's a bit simplistic.  You
could use any DPMI server, be it QDPMI, Windows DOS Box, or a
freely distributed DPMI server that is growing out of this
project.
