Subject: Make crashes under DOS, but not under Windows

A few days ago I wrote:

djgpp seems to work fine on my machine, except that `make' always
crashes---as if running cpp on top of gcc on top of make is too much
for it. I've got 8Mb of memory, and not much in the way of TSRs.
Anyone know what might be causing this?

On a hunch, I reluctantly installed Windows and tried make in a DOS
box---seems to work fine! Most Odd. Anyone got any ideas?
