Subject: `Not enough memory to run GO32' ?
To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu

Hi!

This is my first message to this mailing-list, so sorry if this question
has been asked before (I couldn't find an answer to it in the FAQ).
I'm trying to compile emacs 19.27 under MS-DOS 6.2. First I have installed
DJGPP 1.12 maint 2 and run serveral tests. Everything seems fine.
However, if I do `make install', gcc is started and quits soon with the
message: `Not enough memory to run GO32!'. I've got 8 MB on my machine,
so I must be doing something wrong. In my config.sys I have himem.sys
and emm386.exe. Turning emm386.exe off or even removing it from config.sys
does not make any difference. If I remove himem.sys as well and do
`make install', the machine crashes. I went on experimenting and tried to
do the make from a DOS-box under Windows 3.1, in order to run it under DPMI
Now I got the message: CPU must be in real mode...(etc.)

So... what am I doing wrong??? I know many people have compiled Emacs under
DOS, so it must be possible.

Many thanks in advance for your answers!

Erik
