I dont know, but there is a protected mode version of uemacs in the
standard uemacs distribution on simtel (ue31216m.zip). It doesn't use
djgpp though.

There are makefiles for several system, including UNIX, in the uemacs
directory on simtel. I am using uemacs for on a SUN via telnet for this
email. 

On the other hand, try jed. I have been using it lately which and its
excellent. It's more like gnu emacs but is very small and is great for
dos. There are djgpp, UNIX and X versions.
