Subject: library path?

How does "gcc" find the path to the libraries (if not specified in the command)?
 1. using the "djgpp" environment variable and adding \lib to the root
     of djgpp.env ?

 2. taking the directory in which gcc finds itself, removing \bin and adding 
     \lib ?

---> this is useful for people who want to move some *.exe at other places.
