For DJGPP, I don't see how this could help.  First, DJGPP reads and
transfers data between real and protected modes in chunks of 4KBytes.
Thus, growing the input buffer to more than 4KB won't get you anywhere.
Second, if you have a disk cache installed (and everybody should 
nowadays), it reads ahead for you anyhow.
