Subject: re: Gnu File Utils

Hi all,

From reading all the post about the Gnu File Utilities over the
last week, it seems that many of us have had the same problem:
Where do we find a copy of the Gnu file Utilities (Sed, Touch,...)

This sounds like a fine candidate for inclusion in the djgpp.faq.
Perhaps the following could be included:

==========================================================

Q: Where can I find a copy of the file utilities (Touch, Sed
   rm, ls...), which are required to recompile GCC or other
   Unix-type Programs?

A: These are available in two djgpp ports, one by Tuan Duang (I
   think) at Academia Sinica, and the other by Eric Backus, which is
   available at ftp://ftp.math.niu.edu/pub/djgpp.stuff/packages, or some
   similar path at that machine. You need a ZOO archive extracter, also
   available there. Some of Eric's ports have some problems with io
   redirections (cat in particular does, I don't know about any others).

   There are also the GNUish ports, available at Simtel mirrors in
   ..../msdos/gnuish and at garbo.uwasa.fi, I forget exactly where. Garbo
   is the primary upload site for GNUish ports.

{With apologies to Stephen Turnbull
  <turnbull AT shako DOT sk DOT tsukuba DOT ac DOT jp>}

Does anyone have any comments on the above? Is there a better
compilation of these utilities around?

{DJ, would it possible to include a copy of the above utilities
with DJGPP?}
