Subject: Doom using DJGPP? No. Executor? Yes.

Hi Folks,

DOOM was written on NEXTs, and uses a non-DJ DOS Extender. However,
Executor, our Macintosh emulator for a variety of platforms is also
developed on NEXTs and currently *does* use GO32, and most likely
will continue to. We do our initial round of implementing and
testing on a NEXTstation (68040 based) and a 66DX2 running NEXTSTEP.

We then, still on the NEXT, use gcc, gas and gld configured as a
cross-development system to compile, assemble and link to create a
GO32 executable, which we then test under DOS. We do some debugging
under DOS, but most of our debugging is really done under NEXTSTEP,
since with the exception of interrupt code and a few other OS
dependent things, the program behaves the same way under both
platforms, and it's currently easier for us to debug under NEXTSTEP.

We're thinking about moving to Linux to do our development and our
testing, since NEXTSTEP licenses are expensive, and Linux may be able
to do pretty much everything we want.

If you aren't familiar with Executor, and you'd like a peek, try
oak.oakland.edu:SimTel/msdos/emulator/exctr12?.zip (where ?
=a,b,c,d).
