Subject: crt0.o problem with djgpp1.11

A couple of days ago I updated from djgpp1.10/gcc2.41 (which worked
well) to djgpp1.11/gcc2.54 and, to check the installation attempted
to compile hello.c. This brought up the error message

c:/djgpp/lib/crt0.o: malformed input file (not rel or archive)

The same happens when gcc2.54 is replaced by gcc2.57. What am I
doing wrong, and what is the cure? (I run MSDOS 5.0, but the same
problem has been reported under MSDOS 6.2: see comp.lang.c message
42236.)
